“The beauty in his paintings is symbolized by the human figure, especially the female figure, but the lately the man figure also plays a greater role. ”

Wout Wachtmeester (1958) is self-taught. Since 1992, painting has been a serious activity in his life become. In the course of time his work has evolved from busy ornate paintings to sober, more balanced work. With his work he tries to capture the beauty and at the same time the transience. The contrast between beauty and transience is gradually becoming its main theme grown up. The beauty in his paintings is symbolized by the human figure, especially the female figure, but lately the figure of man also plays a greater role. They were often placed in desolate landscapes and classic entourages with antique, oriental images. On the last paintings one suffices almost monochrome dark background as a backdrop to deepen the emotions of the figures even more. It game with light / dark gives the work an intense atmosphere. In addition to the human figures, birds are also more frequent subject being painted. More or less originated as a coincidental “by-product” on the figure paintings the bird paintings have now become independent works, which are of the same intensity painted as the human figures.
